DEATH METAL
SWEDEN

Released 1st of October, 2026

It happened that Metal Is Good & Stuff had caught up with the backlog of music when this album was released that same day.
Mat then spent an awfully long time getting Stockholm syndrome with this latest release of Swedish death metal.

This is the fifth album from the Sandviken five piece since their formation in 1985, although the fourth since SORCERY have been able to hold steady after reforming in 2009.
Having toyed with differing production approaches since 2013’s Arrival At Six, these ten songs are given a well rounded, clear level of love.

Love was definitely left off the session notes when recording THE IMMACULATE SIN, as it should be, considering we’re talking about a band just north of Stockholm.
While Gothenburg, to the west, got the world back into getting mainstream metal back on track, the infamous buzzsaw approach from bands like Entombed and Dismember ensured that there should be something nasty to grasp for those with a specialised morbidity in their hearing.

As it happens, SORCERY kept those HM-2 pedals dimmed all along. Luck just didn’t seem to shine on them like their peers. That all should change, and the proof is in listening to THE IMMACULATE SIN.
Anybody who appreciates classic Swedish death metal sound should have no problem latching onto the songs on offer.
From the opening triple threat of SHADOWBORN, SET THE WORLD ABLAZE and STAND AS ONE OR FALL DIVIDED, the message is clear. Solid drumming, thick low end and lively riffage upholds gravel voiced poetry of dark malice.

Things were going peachy smooth, and then shit got real. SORCERY can expand their repertoire with the blackened blasts and tremolo picking of TERMINATE, then switch to Floridan groove and pinch harmonics on PARALYZED.
Further in, the intro of SLICE IT UP is possibly the heaviest one minute and ten seconds you will get this year.
Another highlight is the blistering, breakneck fury of THE EXORCIST, where hyperspeed and melodic punctuation make for an anthem by any other standard.
It’s been forty years since PAUL JOHANSSON and OLA MALMSTRÖM started SORCERY, and they have had to take this left hand path the hard way.
With THE IMMACULATE SIN, the accumulated knowledge and experience is now being paid in full.

This is an album that not only showcases perseverance, but is a shining example that there is a galaxy of ideas no matter how tried and tested the genre.
