I’m not sure that I should review this, JUNGLE ROT’s twelfth studio album. Ever since I first heard their 2015 album, Order Shall Prevail, it’s been a jolly little jaunt through their tales of murder, horrific warfare and barbaric acts of cruelty within every album before and since.

I will try to remain impartial with diplomacy firmly put front and centre, here on in.

With CRUEL FACE OF WAR, the Wisconsin war worshippers doing little to either gain or lose fans, JUNGLE ROT maintain their trade in the most neanderthalithic of death metal.
Lowbrow is their highlight. Like a two piece puzzle, you get the point and love it, or you leave disappointed.
This is where I find myself in a state of contented calm. For every band with meticulous timing and thoughtful passages, a bare bones, stripped back brutal pummeling is the palette cleanser needed.
With JUNGLE ROT, I don’t want to think, all I want is beastly beats, grinding guitars and brutish barks.

If you want inspired insights into the intricacies within the twelve tracks on CRUEL FACE OF WAR (or any JUNGE ROT release), don’t come to me. I’m too busy grimacing with delight, bobbing my head, and will only throw horns at you.
I’ve done that in an empty room listening to this, for Christ’s sake.
It inspires the caveman in us all. It’s the soundtrack to the most primeval language of fight, feed, fuck. Sorry, not sorry, and no doubt, neither are JUNGLE ROT.

It’s like I said, I’m likely the last person to review a JUNGLE ROT album. I’m a proper ROTTER, through and through and will cave in to their chugging chunk because they do it so bloody well.

Don’t listen to me. Don’t heed the haters, either. But, do give CRUEL FACE OF WAR a listen and put this primitive pleasure through its paces, and thank me later.

THE CRUEL FACE OF WAR is out now on all major streaming sites, as well as digital and physical formats over on Unique Leader Records’ Bandcamp HERE.
