The lovely people at UK Thrashers and Stampede Press UK gave Metal Is Good & Stuff the heads up on this upcoming thrash metal debut album, so it seemed only proper to follow up and delve into it.

Without getting into any theological or theistic debates, it seems like the nations that share the strongest religious ties with a relaxed social outlook have some of the most abrasive extreme music.
Greece, for example, can celebrate an (un)healthy menagerie of bands that include Rotting Christ, Suicidal Angels, SepticFlesh, Bio-Cancer, and many others among their ranks.

Now, a band from Athen’s furtive underground has released a debut album to bulk the ranks of Mediterranean metal.
Thrash band ETERNAL may have a comparatively sober moniker but their albums title, CONSPIRACY OF WARHEADS, promises sociopolitical awareness over bible bashing and shock tactics. The band consists of Nick Pogas – Vocals/Guitar, Spiros Pexos –  Guitar, Nick Tsaousis – Bass, and Alex Archaniotis – Drums, and it is when the album starts that we find where their souls sit and it starts to come together.

Kicking off with the reliable and solid thrash riff and lick volley of MY WAY OR NO WAY, it is obvious that ETERNAL read from the same thrash manifesto as the classic artists from the genre’s renaissance.
Bullish and confrontational, they say what they see and what they see pisses them off.
This continues with the crossover vibes of MAN DOWN (IN THE FRONT ROW) and, after some atmospheric pause, with the full fat drum pounding of BLOODSPILL. Its aggression belies a melodic approach to riff writing that rivals their North European cousins.

These guys know how to impart impact into the songs. On ADRENALINE RUSH, it is almost impossible not to feel a need to party, even with a no nonsense lyrical approach.  And, while the music is surgically precise, it holds enough gruffness to stick in the ear. This is helped with high doses of modern tones and thought.

The title track is the perfect example of this approach, chaotic time signatures and a solid structure ensure repeat listening.
With an unrelenting brutality of FAKE REALITY and NO ESCAPE, one wonders where the heck all this energy comes from. Unrelenting in the best way possible.

This is an album best put on for the thrash naysayers, those who think thrash had its day in the 80s and outlasted its over two decade second wind. We can only press play, have our best time with CONSPIRACY OF WARHEADS while bathing in the smug glow of bands like ETERNAL keeping thrash metal’s flame fierce.
