Review – Endseeker – Global Worming

Hutch delves back in for some more death metal with German DM heads Endseeker.. does this come with ‘The Machines’ seal of approval….

2021’s Mount Carcass was the second album that I’d heard by Germans Endseeker. I’d reviewed this one and second release The Harvest for Musipedia of Metal (www.musipediaofmetal.blogspot.com) and had been mightily impressed with the band’s progression. I found their style of Death Metal very much to my tastes, and with fourth album Global Worming, there is nothing that has changed my mind.

Nine tracks of explosive Death Metal erupt from the speakers over a feisty 40-minute period which is unrelenting in delivery, power, and impact. Laced throughout the aural battery lies an album that is perfectly crafted, with everything you want from a band who are now moving into top gear.

Endseeker haven’t done anything particularly different on Global Worming to Mount Carcass, except hone their playing, their song writing and their delivery just a little bit more. Vocalist Lenny (Lennart Osterhus) has grafted a bit throatier gravel to his style, his roars and echoing sinister delivery on the harrowing Wheel of Torture for example, sit right in the Dismember locker. Worshiping at the HM-2 altar works alright for me, and the savagery combined with a delicious old school vibe makes Global Worming quite the album.

Yet underneath it all, there lurks the melody and technical prowess that makes this band such an exciting one for me. They took time off in 2022 to focus on this record, and the rewards are evident. They’ve created an album that surpasses everything that they’ve written before. It’s based on a dystopian future with zombies overrunning the planet. Guitarist Ben outlines the themes. “”All that’s left is this enormous amount of slimy, nasty, undead worms and bugs, nesting inside empty skulls and other human remains, and living their best undead life. It’s the kind of classic end-of-the-world story we have in death metal! Phonetic similarities between the song title and possible real life future events that threaten our very existence are totally by chance and unintentional!”

Bringing their heaviest work to the fore on Global Worming, the only thing to do once you’ve played it, is to press play again. If songs like Hell is Here, the title track and Wheel of Fortune don’t get you punching the wall, there’s something not quite right with you. Violent, aggressive, punishing. Endseeker have brought it all here. If there is any justice in the world, then Endseeker should now be invited to dine at the Death Metal top table. This is an album that stands alongside anything else in the genre in 2023.
