Neil Bolton grabbed the new album from Dog Tired from our ‘for review’ list…. and I think he’s glad he did……
Its an eerie soundscape that greets the listener before the drums begin on Dog Tired’s latest release. It is not long before the full on music assault begins and you are definately in the world of thrash groove. Fast, heavy, and powerful. The vocals then add more metal (if that’s possible) and we are off. Even in this one opening song, many levels of song-writing exist, there is a hint of Gojira floating around, the breakdown is effective, and the metal never wains.

A frankly fantastic riff grabs hold of you for next track “The Devine”, and the sound and vibe continues in the same brutal way. “Dog Tired” have been constantly shaping their sound over the last twenty years, and that experience and hard work has paid dividends. All through this album the riffs are individual and drum patterns are intricate and precise. Luke James’ vocals have an element of evil wrapped up in the powerful delivery he possesses.
You could say a track like ‘The Wall” has a small debt to pay to Nu Metal, but they are only soaking up the best bits from this genre. In fact, several genres have an influence on this band, and its the best bits of all of them.
These Scottish metal heads can slow it down and speed it up in the same track with ease. I am sure they are doubtlessly capable of whipping up a sinister circle pit, something I look forward to in their slot at Coalville Metal Invasion in July.
Tracks like “Mars” exhibit their talent even more; the awesome riff-tastic final section is just head-bang inducing. Don’t fight it, there is no point.
This album contains no weak links or fillers, the final track happens to be the title track, and its a monster. The groove is hypnotic, the vocals menacing. Once more this is a mix of power and groove that carry the lyrics to tell a story.
This is a very skilled release that deserves to be in the ears of metal fans all around the world.
