Divinator is a metal band from Derby that recently released a new EP called Celestial Death that brings us an aggressive, raw death metal sound with some groove and hardcore influence.
Wither, the first song, starts fast and gets out this liberation scream straight away. I can hear some influence from At the Gates, especially in the riffs. The guitar riff sticks in your head and makes it very catchy, with this almost executioner vibe that is contagious, making it a strong intro song.
The Suffering continues strong and fast as any death metal song should. The drums are not doing anything new, it’s actually a simple tempo, but it works and keeps it going.

The middle song Mourn steps it up and opens the pit to a much more energetic and more intricate composition. It stays intense but keeps the EP vibe true to itself. The middle break has this almost cemetery, horror vibe, and it introduces this almost electronic beat which gives a sort of suspense. But it doesn’t really come back to it, it just continues almost like a broken record, making it a bit of an edgy move.
The EP ends with Harbinger, that starts with a bass slap that is really noticeable and makes you want to groove. The bass comes back again in the small breakdown in the middle, adding a nice groove and giving the section a bit more weight. The instrumental riff section goes on a bit too long and starts to feel repetitive, almost like it’s looping without really building further, but the vocals coming back in help bring the energy up again. This unfinished part could have been shorter or developed a bit more to keep the vibe going.
The artwork is simple and raw, nothing too complicated, but it hits the spot. Overall its a powerful first EP; keen to hear more and see how they evolve!
We’re giving CELESTIAL DEATH a solid 7 out of 10
