Psychedelic/Stoner Rock
 New Zealand

Released 30th January  2026

For a band coming from such a green and temperate island, they certainly have some desert dust in their boots.

The four piece hailing from the capital of Wellington have followed up the 2022 debut, Moscovium with a slightly different tact.
Where the previous album laid a foundation of classic stoner fare, SOOTHSAYER builds on this with textures that enhances the base architecture. A cleaner, clearer approach and left pocket thinking puts an eclectic spin on things.

Think Tool meets Queens Of The Stone Age and you still only have half the picture, as PLANET HUNTER seem to be venturing into new realms musically. There’s nothing wrong with going off kilter, especially if it helps keep your art alive.

The lively 1000 YEARS FROM NOW is a nihilistic bull of a track with a great chorus and fuzzy solo.
Later on, OUJI has the swagger of your classic desert rock, whereas YOU’LL BE HAPPY is a cracking little throwback to 90s alt rock goodness.

By the time we reach LAZARUS, the album closer, we hear PLANET HUNTER at their most progressive. It’s a meditation where the heavy parts add to the atmosphere as opposed to counter it.

It’s great to hear the other side of the stoner sound from time to time. Stoner metal gets you going hits the spot but, sometimes I need something less heavy heavy and a bit more boogie woogie to scratch some itches.

SOOTHSAYER is that middle ground I needed. A great album filled with nice ideas and sweet (and sweaty) melodies.
I can see this being a sunny afternoon spin for quite a while…
once we get some sunny days, that is.

SOOTHSAYER is available now on the usual streaming sites, or visit the PLANET HUNTER Bandcamp for digital and vinyl copies.
