First of the year: 💜💣
*Thrashatouille* , self described as “the world’s first Chef Metal band”, are exactly what the name promises: theatrical, funny, and genuinely solid musically. Born in Manchester in 2017 from a “there’s not enough food in metal” idea, they lean hard into the concept with chef characters, kitchen themed lyrics, and a live energy that feels more like a chaotic buffet than a standard metal set.
Released in September, “Attack of the Bludgeonaise” is part two of the Bludgy saga, telling the story of Bludgy escaping the kitchen and trying to eat all of humanity.
This track shows why the gimmick works, because the song itself stands up. It opens with a sharp, attention grabbing scream that acts like a proper wake up call, then slides into a punchy modern groove with real weight behind it. The vocals cut through like a cleaver, sharp, high impact, and tightly placed, delivering that punch while still letting the catchy parts shine. Underneath, the guitars keep things groovy rather than overly complicated, which makes the whole song stick. Even with the playful theme, it never turns into a novelty track, it’s just a genuinely fun, solid listen.
What I like most is how well everything blends. Nothing feels random or thrown together, it’s mixed and balanced like a cake batter, each ingredient doing its job. Under the comedy there’s real cohesion between guitar, drums, bass and vocals, and that’s what makes the whole thing surprisingly catchy. You come for the chef metal concept, but you stay because the song actually whips.
If this is a taste of what Thrashatouille can do, they’ve found a recipe that’s original, entertaining, and heavier than it has any right to be.
We’re giving ATTACK OF THE BLUDGEONAISE 8 Slices of metal cake out of 10
