A review by The Brutal Commander.
I’m always excited to hear new music hit the scene and very pleased to have Scaphist send their debut single in for review. This is ‘BENIGN’.
Straight off the bat We are greeted with Dissonance as clairvoyant chugs dot around the sound scape left to right almost prophesying the brutality that will imminently assault our ear drums like a Gorilla punching a bass drum.
As the drop comes in all the instruments create a huge wall of sound accompanied by some of the most brutal animalistic roars i’ve ever heard.
The groovy bending riff and pronounced drum beat immediately set your head to “break neck” mode as you throw your cranium carelessly back and forth to the rhythm of the verses. A Phrygian guitar lead-part dances its way into the track and creates a break that feels really welcome as it helps the track take the listener on a journey through the story of the song.
The lead up to the breakdown section builds our suspense as we wait for the decimation that will rain upon us and thats exactly what happens. The final part of the track summons the darkness around you as the sinister atmosphere takes over you. The final moments of the song leave you in a dissonant limbo wondering where the hell this track just sent you.
Overall i really loved listening to BENIGN it’s a well put together song with a variety of notable moments that kept my attention and excitement up. The production is great especially for a DIY approach! produced, Mixed and mastered by Scaphist member; kieren Radford, it’s a wicked listen. Instrumentally it was amazing. The way the guitars paired aggression and atmospheric dissonance really created a brutal and sinister vibe while the bass and drums created powerful moments that punctuated the story expertly.
I’m left excited for what Scaphist bring with their next releases!!
