From the very first millisecond of this monstrous single, Suffer provide a barrage of viciousness, combining intense drums, evil guitar tones and punchy bass, all served up with a demonic vocal accompaniment.
Suffer are holding nothing back and letting the listener know that this track will have you coiled up in anguish and bathing in iniquitous frequencies.
Darting between energetic tempos and brutally accented sections the verses are an attack on the listener’s psyche. The combination of incredibly low tuned bending guitar riffs and the variety of filthy vocal styles brings on a sense of panic and impending doom that has you writhing in massochistic ectasy. The track develops into a groovier part which I challenge anyone not to vibe with! The jumpy riffs and drum patterns bring on an unavoidable urge to move around and bang your head, one-person moshpits are acceptable if listening alone. As the intensity builds up you feel your face contorting and grimacing. You may find yourself flailing around like an axeweilding maniac or twostepping so hard your downstairs neighbours develop their next hernia.
After all this punishment you are delivered into further brutality as you try your best to refrain from breaking your neck to the pure filth that Suffer conjure. The vocal variety used through out this track really delivers the tone of the sections and demonstrates the talent of the vocalist.
Then comes the shellshock. A sustained squealing tone that rivals my long-established tinitus. As the ringing settles in your tormented brain, A choir of siren-like wails overwhelm you. Like screams of torment from the very homeland Suffer are born from, Hell.
The breakdown that follows feels apocalyptic in its very essence and As you walk through the wasteland created by Suffer’s nuclear chugs you feel the end approach. At the height of your anguish the dirtiest breakdown rains down on you like a cataclysmic torrent of hellfire capping off this incredible track.
I really enjoyed the structure of the song, each section played its part and delivered music that invoked emotions and reactions as i listened. The riffs were super thick and chunky with a fantastic tone. The vocals were otherworldly, as if someone stuck a microphone into the underworld and used what it captured. The production was great as was the mix and master all of which was facilitated by Firestorm Productions.
For composition, production quality and overall listening pleasure, I give ‘Rotten’ a stinking 9 decomposed cadavers out of 10. Remarkable stuff Suffer!
