Okay, in the interest of openness, I was the promoter for this show, and one of my roster bands appeared on the bill… so although I will be as honest as I can… objectivity may of gone out of the window…. just saying !!

A Sunday night in Coventry, a new promoter, a venue not known for metal gigs.. what could go wrong!! Sunday the 25th June, at ‘The Tin’ was the third night of a run for War Grave and Thrasherwolf and 2nd night for Regicide… should the road of taken it’s toll….

Well before we get to that, openers, Coventry’s 2 man music sorcerers ‘Massasauga’ opened the night with their blend of post punk, doom fuzz rock- taking tracks from their new EP – the only good wizard is a dead wizard and earlier singles, showing why the lads are rising stars in the local scene, getting the crowd going despite the more THRASHHHH audience.

Next up is Worcester lads 7 Year War, featured on MTRO v4, these youngsters smashed out a set that would be worthy of bands older in their years, still a bit raw around the edges and with room for improvement as they find their confidence playing live and interacting with the crowd.

Smashing into the next set, are Essex lads Regicide, now as I said in the intro I’m biased as I manage the band, but the boys did themselves proud, showing why they are so popular in Essex and Colchester. Running through their catalogue with vigour and spite… including their latest single ‘Dying To Be Liked’ which went down a storm!

As we head to the sharp end, London Metallers War Grave hit the stage, the lads of only played about 10 times as a unit, and it really doesn’t show, if you haven’t heard the band they are a fabulous blend of Traditional Heavy Metal, with a bit of Thrash and Groove thrown in… so think Judas Priest era Painkiller meets Exciter…. Power Thrash… I don’t know they’re a bit genre neutral, and that doesn’t matter because they put on a great performance, filled with soaring vocals, killer riffs and thundering drums that make you want to mosh!

Finally Thrasherwolf, I’ve seen Dan and the lads quite a few times now, and they improve all the time, Dan has grown from what you would get if you purchased Dave Mustaine from Wish, into an enjoyable and entertaining frontman!

Seriously Dan has evolved so much, with his stage presence and crowd interaction, as have all the band, Jack may now be a rocket scientist but he’s still a guitar wizard and Rai is a crowd favourite as his onstage antics and presence are always entertaining whilst Zaq is the engine of the band as his solid, mammoth drumming holds the whole thing together and anchored.

We had a full range of tracks, featuring the new track that we featured on MTRO v4 – Call Of The Wolves, that will feature on their new album!

All in all the bands came and gave it there all, there were circle pits, chanting and lots of fun had by all, the Coventry crowd wasn’t massive but with support from Adam and ‘The Metalheads of Coventry’ Facebook group we showed that the scene isn’t quite dead!!

Massive thanks to The Tin for having us and Martin Power from Power Photography /MMH Radio for the photos – see the full set HERE
