A review by Gioia –
Hand of Doom, the UK death metal power trio, blast through a four-track EP that’s all speed, grit, and unshakeable aggression.
From the opener, Necrotic Narcotic, the band channels a feral, first-wave thrash attack: thrashy, fast, and razor-edged. The vocal grit complements the thrash-forward assault, while the riffs are punchy and eclectic, built to make you dive into the pit without thinking twice.
Lung Rot, the second track, takes a deliberately modern turn with punk and hardcore touches. It’s fast, hook-forward, and riddled with razor riff changes, my pick of the bunch.
The closer, Brain Drain, is pure circle-pit gasoline: a whiplash, high-octane thrash track that hits the gas from bar one and never lets up, driven by loose, full-tilt riffing, raw vocal shouts, and a constant, battering snare drum.
And the artwork, oh my. It fully embraces the record’s concept: the tension of “stillness” decaying into rot, visually amplifying the music’s corrosive momentum. It’s arresting and perfectly on theme.
Final verdict: I’m giving BE STILL AND ROT 8 slimey viscera out of 10
