A Review by Gioia –
Oskaria, a three-piece from Bristol, crash onto the doom death metal scene with a debut EP that’s as raw as it is powerful THE CULT OF CTHULHU. Across four tracks, their down-tuned riffs and commanding drums create a vast, cavernous soundscape. The bass is adding weight throughout, and it really comes alive in the third track, “Blackened Waters,” where it brings extra weight and intensity.
The vocals are a real highlight, building in intensity and confidence right from the opener, “The Cult of Cthulhu,” as they immediately capture attention and elevate the band’s epic, doom-laden atmosphere. While there’s still room for refinement, this progression makes the listening experience even more memorable.
The EP’s artwork is a mythological octopus with hands that captures the band’s mysterious and monstrous energy perfectly. In short, Oskaria’s debut is a bold statement, showing huge promise and making them a name to watch in doom metal.
I give THE CULT OF CTHULHU 8 severed tentacles out of 10
