Those young whippersnappers from Oldham are back with their sophomore album, after demolishing Bloodstock and touring with UK thrash giants Xentrix, the thrashcore four piece offer up ‘Rise Of The Lifeless’
Now the lads are no strangers to us here at ukthrashers and we have had them on the podcast as well as reviewing their debut album and we were excited to see what the new material sounds like, and how much is ‘thrash’ and how much is ‘core’!

The album launches with an atmospheric instrumental, the soundtrack to the boys coming out onto stage in front of a packed crowd of eager Metalheads, before the first track proper launches into overdrive – the title track ‘Rise Of The Lifeless’ lay’s out the Tortured Demon stall, frantic quality riffing, huge bottom end and the somewhat ‘anthemic’ (not sure if thats a real word) vocals.
Now the feelings of the tracks being anthems is one I’ll come back to, as I’ve only had a couple of days to digest the album to get this review out before release (thanks to Jacob and Joe for hooking me up where the PR couldn’t) and so many of the tracks have that feeling…
Next track up ‘Virtual Death’ is a prime example, there is just something about the construction of the track and the arrangement that makes it feel way bigger and more important than it should be…. I don’t mean that rudely, but this is a bunch of ‘youth’ self funding and releasing an album, but this has the feeling of something bigger, like Linkin Park and Slayer have had a baby and spawned an angry violent little fucker that wants to tear of your head and shit down your neck!
This continues for me throughout the following tracks… Global Threat, and isn’t it just, the drumming from Joe on this one is the standout as his double kicks fly as fast as his legs will carry him. And to be honest the album continues in this vein, Disfavour, Conflict Of Interest continue to be world eaters, whilst Erase Your Life has a bit more of that punky edge with it’s fast and frantic beginning until the tempo slows down and the groove goes up!
‘The War Will Come To You’ and ‘Eyes In The Fire’ do not disappoint with the later having some extra melody thrown in… this is the albums ‘Tornado Of Souls’ for me with a really nice solo thrown in to make it a stand out.
And before you know it, we are on to the final track ‘The Damage Is Done’ the longest track by about 2 minutes and slows things right down for it’s acoustic interlude before the final right hook to the face… and then a fade out.
Let’s be honest, the lads have packaged a banger of an album, I’ve only played it 3 or 4 times so I’m yet to separate the tracks in my head and sometimes they can feel a bit similar to my old ears, that’s not a bad thing when they are all this quality, and you are left knowing that this is a band with intent, with attitude, these lads are on a mission, and whilst die hard thrashers may feel it strays away from the path, the ‘Metal’ produced is not just for us that remember thrash in 1986, but for a new generation of riff loving, moshpit maniacs that should 100% get behind this release… the future is bright for ‘Tortured Demon‘
Tortured Demon – Rise Of The Lifeless is out this Friday the 2nd June for ordering, merch and all that good stuff head to the bands WEBSITE
